Purchasing Best Value NAS Drives on Amazon
I was looking at getting larger drives for a small NAS unit I was building out. It is a small 4 Bay Netgear NAS that I inherited. Currently I have a bunch of 2TB drives laying around from a previous project a few years back. These have served me well, but some have a manufactured date of 2011! Time flys, its 2019 now! One of the considerations I was looking at was getting the best value I could for some Western Digital Red drives, assuming money is no object but value in terms of price per TB is, the table below breaks down my choice. I have based the costs from Amazon here.
Size | Cost | Cost per TB |
---|---|---|
4TB | $99.99 | $24.99 |
6TB | $99.99 | $24.99 |
8TB | $219.99 | $27.49 |
10TB | $249.99 | $24.99 |
12TB | $349.99 | $29.16 |
Based on the above table, I will likely proceed with the 10TB as it is the same cost per TB as the 4 and 8TB, but gives me the maximum usage out of my 4 bay NAS. Some of you might ask why I didn’t look at other vendors, this is just a personal choice as I have not had any significant issues with Western Digital drives.
